The London Eye

Meeting Place for the Shadow Communities

Created for the Millenium celebrations, the London Eye has rapidly become one of London's most recognizable landmarks. A giant ferris wheel beside the Thames, almost directly opposite the Houses of Parliament, it carries its passengers aloft in hiuge transparent "bubbles" which command a superb view out across the city

In 2003, at Van Lutyens suggestion, the Temple ended its Tube journey from the Temple station at Waterloo, and walked the short distance to the Eye, where they boarded a capsule which Van Lutyens had pre-booked for several rotations of the wheel. Debating issues while contemplating the magnificent vista of the night-time city has since become a habit for the Temple, and has been separately adopted by individual members of the "Big Three" for their own "business" meetings.
