... so said Benjamin Disraeli more than a century ago. Today, this is truer than ever. Almost every race, creed and colour on the face of the globe finds representatives amongst the city's more than seven million inhabitants.
London: The Modern Babylon is a Vampire: The Masquerade 20th Anniversary edition setting based in London, England.
The setting is largely, but not completely, based on White Wolf canon. The most important difference is that the Gehenna metaplot never happened. The Ravnos Antediluvian never awoke, and its clan remains largely intact. . The Sabbat did mount a major offensive on the American East Coast in the 1990s, and the Camarilla counterattack did retake New York, but Xavier never had his fateful encounter with Leopold, and never led the Gangrel out of the Camarilla - the Clan of the Beast remains a full member of the Sect. Nor has ur-Shulgi awoken and shredded the Tremere curse on the Assamites; the Assamite clan remains unable to commit Diablerie. Tremere remains in torpor beneath the chantry in Vienna, and the Tremere antitribu still exist, although Clan Tremere has been devoting a lot of effort to exterminating its renegades over the past few years.
The setting is also a modern-day continuation of the Walls of Blood game on this site, and so follows its "canon" as well.
Late in 2004, the Assamite Monty Coven, who had Diablerised the former Prince, Mithras, and been largely possessed by the former Prince's mind and soul, led a group of Sabbat Crusaders and Camarilla malcontents in a lightning raid intended to destroy the Lady Anne and her Primogen, and retake the Princedom. But Mithras' tactical genius had been diluted by his possession of Coven, and the coup didn't go as planned. Many of the Primogen were killed, and Lady Anne was forced into torpor, but so was Mithras/Coven, and the insurrectionists were completely wiped out. The bodies of Anne and Mithras/Coven vanished in the aftermath of the battle; nobody has any knowledge of their current whereabouts (that they will admit to, at least). London's surviving elders rallied and restored order before the Camarilla could be tempted to intervene; a new Prince and Primgen now rule the city, and the Sabbat presence, never very large, has been almost wiped out in the witch-hunts that followed Coven's coup attempt.
